Nerve Blocks (occipital)
Nerve blocks can help manage pain associated with compressed, damaged or injured nerves. They can be performed with ultrasound guidance so that medications can be delivered directly to the target nerve. A combination of local anesthetic and steroid is typically used to block the pain signals from being transmitted. Occipital nerve blocks are used to help manage headaches caused by the compression of occipital nerves. This entrapment of occipital nerves can lead to inflammation and irritation of the nerves which can be improved with an occipital nerve block.
