Ketamine has recently received tremendous attention in the medical community as it has been clinically proven to treat several medical conditions. Anesthesiologists have used ketamine for decades to aide in putting people to sleep before surgery, however what we have discovered is that sub-anesthetic doses can be used to quickly treat chronic conditions such as pain, depression and PTSD, especially when resistant to other common forms of treatment. Ketamine acts on on NMDA receptor, causing a system “reset”. It also acts to increase glutamate activity which is tied to our mood.

Ketamine is administered as an intravenous infusion, and the treatment is otherwise painless. The infusion lasts 1-2 hours and patients will typically feel better as soon as the infusion is completed. The infusion is customized to fit the need of the patient. We recommend that you bring something that will allow you to relax and self-reflect. Some patients like to listen to music while others will try meditation or relaxation techniques. Reach out to your provider today to find out if ketamine might be a good treatment option for you.
