Bursa Injections

Bursa Injections (greater trochanter and subacromial bursa)

Bursas are small fluid filled sacs in multiple locations in the body. They typically exist between soft tissues like tendons and bony structures. They act as shock absorbers and minimize friction. Their job is to keep the body moving smoothly and minimizing wear and tear. However, in some cases, these fluid filled sacs can get inflamed with repetitive motion or overuse. A bursa injection with local anesthetic and steroids can help reduce inflammation and decrease pain. Some common sites of bursa injection are the greater trochanter bursa on the side of the hip and the subacromial bursa on the side of the shoulder.
