Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can have a variety of causes, including injuries to the shoulder joint or the muscles, ligaments, and tendons that make up the rotator cuff. These injuries can occur as a result of trauma to the shoulder during a car accident or other type of personal injury accident. Common injuries include dislocations, fractures, and sprains.

Additionally, pain may also be referred from other parts of the body such as the chest or abdomen, making it important for a thorough examination to be performed. Imaging such as X-rays, CT, or MRI may be needed to identify the underlying cause of the pain and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Physical therapy, pain management, and in some cases, surgery may be recommended to alleviate pain and improve mobility.

Shoulder Pain Treatments

Minor shoulder pain often responds to simple over-the-counter drugs (to relieve pain and inflammation), mild exercises, lifestyle and activity modification, stretching, and physical therapy.  If the pain persists and a more aggressive treatment plan is needed, there are many different treatment options. Potential treatments include steroid injections, nerve blocks, regenerative injections (PRP, bone marrow), and surgery.
